Revised Statewide Treatment Protocols

Deadline for implementation of the new Statewide Treatment Protocols, version 5.0, is being extended to January 1, 2004.  Those ambulance services that have trained their staff and are ready to implement the new Protocols' requirements may begin doing so November 1, 2003.

Two new treatment protocols added:

New Service Option:

  • Administration of Albuterol by BLS Providers (Service Option)

    • 3.4 Bronchospasm/Respiratory Distress

    • 5.4 Pediatric Bronchospasm/Respiratory Distress

  • Pediatric Defibrillation (Service Option)

    • 5.1 Newborn Resuscitation

    • 5.5 Pediatric Cardiopulmonary Arrest

    • 5.10 Pediatric Trauma & Traumatic Arrest

  • Pediatric Intraosseous Infussion (Service Option)

    • All Pediatric Protocols

Changes in treatment protocol:

  • Status Epilepticus

    • 3.9 Seizures

  • Dopamine as a Medical Control Option

    • 1.6 Post-Resuscitation Care

  • Intranasal Narcan (as an alternative route of administration)

    • 2.4 Hypothermia/Cold Emergencies

    • 3.3 Altered Mental/Neurological Status/Diabetic

    • 3.9 Seizures

    • 3.12 Syncope of Unknown Etiology

    • 3.13 Toxicology/Poisoning/Substance Abuse/Overdose

  • Remove reference to MAST/PASG

    • All Protocols
